Named for the Emerald Triangle growing region of Northern California’s Mendocino, Humboldt and Trinity counties, The Emerald Cup will be held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, CA and tickets are on sale now for 21+ patrons here. The Emerald Cup weekend will be preceded on Friday, December 13 by the invitation-only Emerald Cup Mixer, an industry event open to California licensed cannabis brands.

Cheech & Chong: Still Rollin’—Celebrating 40 Years Of Up in Smoke Opening On 4/20

CALIFORNIA: Grammy-winning comedy duo Cheech & Chong will be the subject of a new exhibit opening at the GRAMMY Museum® on 4/20. Titled Cheech & Chong: Still Rollin’—Celebrating 40 Years Of Up In Smoke, the exhibit is curated in collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Lou Adler, who uncovered the legendary duo, produced many of their albums, and directed the film.

On display through spring 2019, the exhibit explores what made the world fall in love with East L.A. native Richard “Cheech” Marin and Canadian Tommy Chong, while chronicling the development and success of their first feature-length film, Up In Smoke. Items on display will include the original marked-up script from Up In Smoke, the master tape for the soundtrack album, comedy sketches, an assortment of limited-edition 40th anniversary smoking devices, and selections from Marin’s “Blazing Chicano Guitars” guitar-art collection, among other items.

As the first strictly counterculture comics, Cheech & Chong helped change the dialogue, and ultimately attitudes, about marijuana use. As recording artists, they utilized the studio much like musicians do—a place to improvise and experiment as they turned their comedy routines into full-length albums. They released an eponymous LP in 1971 featuring studio sketches including “Dave,” “Cruisin’ With Pedro De Pacas,” and “Trippin’ In Court.” The album’s 1972 follow-up, Big Bambú, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album. The following year’s Grammy-winning Los Cochinos also charted at No. 2 and included the novelty hit “Basketball Jones.” These albums, and those that followed, served as a template for future comedy albums and stoner films.

“Cheech & Chong are arguably the quintessential comedy duo of the hippie generation,” said Scott Goldman, Grammy Museum Executive Director. “Individually, they’ve achieved great success, with Cheech becoming one of the most well-known and respected Chicano entertainers, and Tommy making his mark as an actor, writer, musician, and cannabis rights activist. Together, they became a voice for the counterculture, and to this day their hit film, Up In Smoke, is considered one of the best comedies of all time.”

Chong’s show will follow a format reminiscent of popular outlaw chef Anthony Bourdain, and will showcase the best cannabis flower and concentrates from the world’s top growers — from Humbolt to Amsterdam to Nepal to Kentucky.

“I’m excited to announce that I’m developing a cannabis travel show, where I explore all the unique cannabis cultures this planet has to offer. I love to have a Cannabis Club TV channel playing while I’m carving and testing my handmade water pipes,” says Tommy Chong, cannabis pioneer.

Chong’s Choice Colorado: Premium Quality, No Mark Up

COLORADO: Chong’s Choice is the only celebrity brand to be offered without an exorbitant mark up in price. A Marijuana Business Daily report, released in December 2016, found that of the three major celebrity cannabis brands available in the U.S. (Leafs by Snoop, Willie’s Reserve, and Chong’s Choice), Chong’s Choice was offered with the least amount of mark up.

The average markup of a celebrity-branded strain versus its unbranded counterpart was found to be approximately 24%—approximately $5-$10 more per eighth. The price of a Chong’s Choice Colorado strain was virtually the same as the unbranded version of the same strain of marijuana, meaning there is little to no mark up in price.

While other celebrity cannabis brands have spent resources on expensive packaging, an expense that often gets passed on to the consumer, Chong’s Choice focuses on the quality of the product.

“We wanted to offer the best possible product at the most reasonable price,” says LeVon Terry, Director of Sales at Sherpa Supply, Chong’s Choice Colorado brand manager and operations partner.

Still, Chong’s Choice has managed to incorporate marketing into their product. Fans of Chong’s Choice can find branded gear at Chongwear.com, and pre-rolls come stamped with the face of Tommy Chong. “We want consumers to have fun with the brand and receive top-notch product, but we don’t want to charge them a premium for packaging,” Terry says. Consumers will soon be able to purchase branded, commemorative stash jars to store their flower.

“I am not in this for the money,” Tommy Chong said at the packed November 10th launch party for Chong’s Choice Colorado, “I just want to make the best cannabis available to the most amount of people.”

Stoner Icon Says Hemp Oil To Blame For Tumor

CALIFORNIA: Funnyman and stoner icon Tommy Chong is undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in his rectum in the hope it will end his painful battle with cancer.

The marijuana activist checked into the hospital in Los Angeles on Thursday shortly after appearing on US news show Access Hollywood Live, where he revealed he’s desperate to close out his longtime health issues.

Chong won his battle with prostate cancer in 2012, insisting pot suppositories were a miracle cure, but earlier this year the comedian was diagnosed with rectal cancer – and he believes the hemp oil he used to beat his first cancer may be the cause of his latest crisis.

“When you go into your orifice you’ve got to clinically know what you’re doing with it. I put suppositories up there and I don’t know how they did the oil and so on, and so now I found a laboratory where they test and they make sure that the oil that they give you to inject and everything else is pharmaceutically correct, it’s pure.

Tommy Chong: “I Got Diagnosed With Rectal Cancer,” in Treatment Now

CALIFORNIA: Tommy Chong is battling cancer once again. The Cheech & Chong star, 77, revealed in an interview with Us Weekly on Tuesday, June 16, that he is undergoing treatment for rectal cancer.

“I’ve had some medical issues lately,” Chong told Us at the 826LA 10th anniversary party in Santa Monica, Calif. “I got diagnosed with rectal cancer.”

The That ’70s Show alum was previously diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2012. A vocal advocate for the decriminalization of marijuana, Chong turned to the drug for relief in his first round of cancer and told Us he is doing the same now.

Hash Bash 2015 A Call To Action For Michigan Marijuana Legalization Initiative

MICHIGAN:  Ann Arbor‘s annual celebration of all things cannabis, known as the Hash Bash, returns this Saturday.

Thousands of marijuana advocates from throughout Michigan and beyond are expected to swarm the University of Michigan Diag at noon for a two-hour rally featuring speakers ranging from comedian Tommy Chong to Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero, as well as activist John Sinclair, for whom the original rally was held in 1972.

The annual event, which organizers call a “speak out and smoke down” protest, has a long history in Ann Arbor, now in its 44th year.

The addition of 76-year-old Chong, of “Cheech and Chong” fame, to this year’s lineup is expected to draw a larger crowd than usual.

Pot Lobby Turns Its Back On ‘Cheech & Chong’

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA:  The marijuana lobby is tired of the “Cheech & Chong” stoner jokes and wants to be taken seriously in Congress.

That’s why the National Cannabis Industry Association dropped actor and marijuana activist Tommy Chong from its Capitol Hill lobbying push slated for the end of April. According to an internal email obtained by POLITICO, the cannabis industry wants to move past the stoner stereotypes embodied by Chong as it tries to remake itself as a serious and respectable segment of the economy.

In a Monday email sent to Chong’s representatives and allies, NCIA Executive Director Aaron Smith said that after deliberations and feedback from “allied members of Congress,” the group decided Chong is not the best representative in stodgy Washington, particularly when it comes to lobbying right-of-center lawmakers.

“Having Tommy out in DC for the NCIA Lobby Days will detract from the overall message we aim for with the event, which is that cannabis business people are regular professionals and relatable to the generally conservative members of Congress we are looking to appeal to,” Smith wrote. “We are here to break ‘stoner’ stereotypes rather than reinforce them.”
