DJ Snoopadelic and Kokane Headline Oklahoma Hempfest September 7-9th

NEW DATES. OKLAHOMA HEMPFEST RESCHEDULED:  Oklahoma Hempfest Rescheduled; New Dates June 7, 8 & 9th 2019

By Scott McKinley

Who could imagine Oklahoma going for Medical Cannabis?  After the state just claimed the crown for most incarcerations,  the people have truly spoken with this one.

Being an 8-year member of Seattle Hempfest, I know the power of a “Protestival” done right. This will be my third year of sponsoring a stage in Seattle and networking with all the entrepreneurs to make the 3-day event happen, and so naturally I decided it would be a perfect timing idea to bring the official Hempfest to my home state of Oklahoma.  With the teachers all at strike and a good portion of the proceeds going to them, I banked on state question 788 to pass.

I flew in to my home state of Oklahoma to meet with the group who created Rocklahoma to begin the planning. For public and political support, we flew in Seattle City A Attorney Pete Holmes,  Seattle Hempfest’s Vivian McPeak, Patrick Saint from the Twenty22 Many Foundation, and Ashley Heddy the head of traceability training from BiotrackTHC.

We had a panel set up by Senator and gubernatorial candidate Connie Johnson.   We toured the venue Lost Lakes, and fell in love with the layout. It’s the perfect place.  I put all the pieces together and presented the idea.  Along the way, I had many partners and friends say I was wasting my time because Oklahoma would never legalize.  I reached out to Snoop Dogg’s camp, as I had worked with him in the past, and he had the dates — September 7-9 — open.

All the pieces have come together.  We lined up the investors, the venue, the state, and the artists —  all while awaiting the vote.  So you asked for it, Oklahoma, and you will get it:  the first annual Oklahoma Hempfest headlined by DJ Snoopadelic, and the Legendary Kokane — the most featured artist in the world. — with 3 days and 4 stages of artists and speakers.  In the tradition of Seattle Hempfest, this will be a free to the public event and will have speakers in between each artist performing on all stages.  Stay tuned for more details!

Snoop Dogg To Speak At C2 Montréal 2018

CANADA: C2 Montréal is proud to announce that Snoop Dogg will be a speaker at the 7th edition of its flagship event, which will be held from May 23 to 25, 2018 in Montreal, Canada at the Arsenal. The artist turned entrepreneur will take centre stage in the Big Top to discuss his entrepreneurial vision for the cannabis industry. Joining Snoop Dogg for the talk is Ted Chung, a media entrepreneur and Snoop’s business partner at Casa Verde Capital and co-founder of Merry Jane.

Snoop creates opportunities in a new industry
Snoop is the founder of the venture capital firm Casa Verde Capital, which makes early-stage investments in startups in the ancillary cannabis industry. Casa Verde has funded several major marijuana ventures in the agtech, financial services, health, technology, media sectors, among others. One of Snoop’s recent high-profile investments includes $2 million in funding for Canadian cannabis inventory management company Trellis.

Building a cannabis content empire
Snoop’s sizeable entrepreneurial footprint, however, extends well beyond the venture capitalist aspect. He is also the co-founder of Merry Jane alongside business partner Ted Chung. Offering editorial content focused on marijuana news, politics, business and culture, Merry Jane speaks for and to the global mainstream cannabis community. Strategic brand partnerships (with the likes of VICE, MTV, Reddit, Complex and more) are key to the creation and sharing of original news and video content, such as VH1’s popular Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party TV series, featuring C2 Montréal 2016 alumni Martha Stewart.

With the impending legalization of marijuana in Canada, and the opening of the cannabis market in several jurisdictions across the U.S., Snoop Dogg has positioned himself as a leading voice on matters related to the business of cannabis.

Casa Verde Capital Leads Investment In Cannabis Testing Lab Cannalysis

Snoop Dogg Venture Firm Helps Analytical Cannabis Laboratory Expand Its Nationwide Footprint

CALIFORNIA: Cannalysis, a cannabis testing laboratory, announced today a seed investment led by Casa Verde Capital. As the premier cannabis testing lab in the market, Cannalysis harnesses technology to provide best-in-class service to some of the largest cultivators and brands in California.

With California’s adult-use regulations coming into effect next year, government-mandated third party testing will create a huge demand for services. However, many existing labs are not prepared to deal with this type of volume due to inferior technology, creating significant bottlenecks in getting clean product to market. As such, Cannalysis is poised to fill this gap, with industry leading, guaranteed three business-day turnarounds.

Having built a custom platform from the ground up, Cannalysis streamlines the testing experience and puts all data in the client’s hands, providing real-time tracking and sample status updates. Furthermore, beautiful and intuitive reporting enables Cannalysis to deliver the story behind the test results, something that customers genuinely appreciate.

In that vein, Kurvana, one of the largest cannabis brands in California had this to say on its relationship with Cannalysis. “They push our high volumes of samples through analysis without impact to quality or turnaround time, and they are willing to work with us to prioritize the results we need most. Placing value in collaboration and transparency, Cannalysis has exceeded our expectations and raised our standards.”

“With a tech-first approach, Cannalysis has quickly established itself as one of the leading lab platforms in California. This approach has also positioned Cannalysis to quickly scale and establish JV partners around the country,” said Karan Wadhera, managing partner at Casa Verde Capital. Mr. Wadhera continued, “in fact, the first Cannalysis JV will come online in Portland early next year and we’re eager to secure new partnerships across the country to help extend the Cannalysis brand.”

Brian Lannon, CEO of Cannalysis, echoed these remarks, saying “we are at an inflection point for this industry and we are ready to expand. Having a marquee investor and strategic partner like Casa Verde, will be instrumental in helping us achieve our growth objectives.”

Synopsis:

There’s a boom in medical marijuana dispensaries in the state of California and the U.S. These facilities have reached record numbers, cropping up like Starbucks or McDonald’s. States across the nation are legalizing medical and recreational marijuana. Our two unlikely heroes, Pat (DeRay Davis – “EMPIRE”, “21 Jump Street”, “GI Joe”) and Darius (Lil Duval – “Scary Movie 5″,”Meet the Blacks”), figure they can help the medical marijuana movement, but mainly help themselves by trying to grow their own cannabis and selling their crop to the dispensaries. Only one problem, knowing how to smoke marijuana doesn’t mean you know how to grow it.

After taking a trip to “Dr. Doobie” (Malcolm McDowell – “Entourage”, “The Mentalist”, “Home Alone”) to become legally certified growers, they gain access to a Bel Air mansion to use as a “grow house.” Although they convince Snoop Dogg (played as himself) to fund their operation, our heroes soon discover what can grow wrong, will go wrong in this comedy of errors.

The Wink in Weed: Marketing Thru Marijuana

By David Rheins

Years ago, when I was working at Rolling Stone Magazine, I had the opportunity to interview Jerry Garcia backstage before a Grateful Dead performance at Madison Square Garden. The show was being sponsored by Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, and as the editor of Marketing Thru Music (MTM), it was my job to chronicle how popular music and musicians were being used to market consumer products.  Ben and Jerry, two hippie entrepreneurs from Vermont, had just introduced Cherry Garcia and were marketing it to baby boomers who shared their love of the bandleader and the deadhead lifestyle.  I asked Jerry what he had to say to those critics who suggested that he had “sold out” to the man by agreeing to let his name be used in such a commercial way.

Bemused, Jerry just chuckled and said, “Hell man, we would have sold out years ago, but no one was buying!”

Pot Culture has turned Pop Culture, and everyone is buying.  Today’s legal cannabis industry would not have been possible without decades of protest and sacrifice from activists and the cannabis community, and those of us in the legal cannabis industry owe a debt of gratitude. Thanks to decades of political activism, public attitudes have shifted, and the stage has been set for what only commerce can achieve – true normalization of cannabis use and cannabis users.

The majority of Americans support legalization.  Voters of both red and blue persuasions were unequivocal at the polls this past November, as Initiatives in 8 of 9 states demonstrated that We the People want our legal weed. Victories in influential California and mega tourist destination Nevada will bring the country’s media and entertainment cultural centers into the legal fold, serving as a megaphone for broadcasting the positive realities of legalization far and wide. The entire West Coast will soon be legal, and with Maine and Massachusetts recreational cannabis is firmly establishing itself on the East Coast.

This month marked the fourth anniversary of the Marijuana Business Association, and for the third consecutive year, we were honored to be nominated Best Cannabis Association of the year at the prestigious Dope Industry Awards. MJBA has firmly established itself as the leading professional business organization in legal cannabis, and with hundreds of cannabis businesses, thousands of MJBA MeetUp members and hundreds of thousands of MJBA web and social media followers, we’ve morphed and evolved and grown along with the legal cannabis industry we serve.

It has been an honor to be a part of our historic movement, and to work with the amazing entrepreneurs and thought leaders who are literally building our nascent industry one success story at a time. Hundreds of newly licensed cannabis brands – some with celebrity names attached — are beginning to exert real power – defining what legal cannabis looks like, changing minds about what cannabis users are like, while generating billions in new taxes, and creating tens of thousands of new jobs.

Today, celebrity stoners from Willie Nelson and Whoopi Goldberg to Snoop Dogg and The Trailer Park Boys are Marketing Thru Marijuana.  Jerry Garcia would be proud.

CALIFORNIA: Pot-driven media platform Merry Jane is the new executive producer of MTV’s new cannabis scripted television show, “Mary + Jane”.

“Mary + Jane” was created by executive producers and writers, Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont (“Can’t Hardly Wait”). Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady (“Game of Thrones”), Marcus Blakely and Jill McElroy serve as executive producers. Snoop Dogg and Ted Chung from Merry Jane serve as executive producers. In addition, Snoop Dogg wrote and performs the series’ theme song.

“Merry Jane is proud to be, once again, the forefront innovators for a counter culture changing the mainstream,” said Co-Founder Ted Chung. “Cannabis is the new rock n roll…the new hip-hop…and Merry Jane is the leading voice for the culture online, with countrywide live-events, and, now, on global television networks.”

The single camera, half-hour comedy about Jordan (Scout Durwood) and Paige (Jessica Rothe), two twenty-something best friends who run an all-female cannabis delivery service in Los Angeles. Filled with funny, raw and bizarre adventures, the show explores the uncharted territory as Los Angeles comes out of the Green Closet and gets into high and higher.  “Mary + Jane” premieres on MTV, Monday, September 5th at 10 p.m.

“It’s super cool and relevant that our new show with MTV, “Mary + Jane”, is about a female delivery service,” said Snoop Dogg. “When you’re down with the green, this is our diverse lifestyle and the world we live in. The Merry Jane team is working on more and more dope content. It’s time to sit back, light one, and enjoy this ride.”

Snoop Dogg Will Get A $5,000 Marijuana Gift From Oregon Pot Community

NEW YORK: Snoop Dogg will be gifted about $5,000 worth of top-shelf marijuana before his Tuesday concert in Oregon.

The rapper will receive a collection of “the best weed Oregon has to offer,” including marijuana-infused edibles and topical products, as a present for performing in Portland, The Oregonian reports.

More than two dozen weed advocates in the state donated their best products to be added to the gift bag for the rapper and his crew. “It was remarkably fast and honestly, the feedback has been tremendous as far as people bringing me a lot more than I expected, people showing up with 2 ounces of their finest flower or 15 of their edibles,” organizer Joshua Jardine Taylor told the newspaper.
