Schumer Takes A Wait-And-See Approach On Medical Marijuana In New York

NEW YORK: U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is taking a wait-and-see attitude on legalizing medical marijuana in New York state.

Speaking to members of the Advance Editorial Board, he also gave good grades to Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio, but said that City Hall needs to keep an eye on crime rates or else de Blasio could be a “cooked goose.”

On medical marijuana, Schumer said, “I’d be leery of just opening up all the floodgates. On the other hand, there’s a compassionate argument. Some doctors say when you have a serious type of cancer, medically prescribed marijuana is the only way to go.”

However, Schumer added, “you don’t want it to be abused where anybody can walk in and get medical marijuana.”
