NECANN Launches FREE Cannabis & Hemp Virtual Seminar Series

With conventions on hold nationwide NECANN and its partners are creating online networking and education programs

MASSACHUSETTS: The New England Cannabis Convention today announced it has launched a free series of Cannabis and Hemp virtual seminars in partnership with NECANN Boston convention exhibitors and sponsors.

The weekly series of free webinars, virtual meetings, instructional videos and educational content is designed to help fill the current void in cannabis industry networking opportunities created by the cancellation or postponement of business meetings, trade shows and conventions nationwide as a result of the COVID-19 public health crisis.

“Our network of NECANN exhibitors, sponsors, attendees and followers have been incredibly responsive to this,” said Marc Shepard, President and Co-Founder of NECANN. “We are all in this together as an industry and as a nation. It’s unclear exactly when large-scale events and conventions will be able to resume in full. That’s why we are working together as the NECANN community to stay connected through high-quality virtual seminars and other networking and education opportunities.”

The first NECANN Cannabis and Hemp Virtual Seminar Series program was a webinar with Nic Easley of 3C Consulting on the actions cannabis business operators should be taking to maintain essential operations, ensure safe patient access to cannabis and manage through mandatory closures.

The Green Cannabis Packaging Series, a YouTube video mini-series created by Contempo Specialty Packaging, will educate participants in eco-friendly and sustainable packaging and packaging best practices. NECANN is also offering the instructional video  Home Growing – produced by Trifecta Natural Solutions. The program delivers expert guidance on handling mold, mildew and pests with preventative maintenance using Trifecta Crop Control. And Heady Vermont – also in partnership with NECANN – is moving the Women in Cannabis Summit to an all-virtual online format on Saturday, April 11th.

Other programming in the NECANN Cannabis and Hemp Virtual Seminar Series will be announced through weekly email updates every Monday, and a full list of offerings can be found in the free content section at NECANN.com and on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

NECANN Boston 2020 has been rescheduled to June 27, 28 and 29 at the Hynes Convention Center. NECANN will honor all vendor registrations, pre-sale tickets, and sponsor commitments on the convention’s new date. The New England Cannabis Community Awards, The Diversity Supplier Expo/Job Fair, and the first-annual NECANN Competition awards will remain as featured programs during the rescheduled three-day cannabis trade show. A full list of all NECANN show reschedule dates is also available at NECANN.com.

NECANN Boston 2020 Rescheduled To June 27-29

Illinois convention also postponed; new dates pending

Action was necessary as part of public-health response to COVID-19

MASSACHUSETTS: The New England Cannabis Convention announced today it has rescheduled its NECANN Boston 2020 show to June 27, 28 and 29 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.  The annual meeting of the New England Cannabis industry – originally scheduled for March 20-22 – was postponed this week as concerns escalated over the global COVID-19 outbreak and its impact on public health and safety.

“We are facing a world health crisis, and every community in New England and beyond needs to work together and make the right decisions to control this outbreak,” said Marc Shepard, Co-Founder and President of NECANN. “We are working closely with the Hynes Convention Center to plan for these new dates in June. And of course, as the situation with Covid-19 evolves, we will assess with the Hynes and the City of Boston the status of public health and safety measures as we approach June 27. Nonetheless we are grateful to have new dates in place for the premier cannabis industry trade show in the Northeast.”

The Illinois NECANN convention originally planned for April 3-4 has also been postponed. The NECANN team is working with local organizers, the City of Chicago and our venue, the Chicago Hilton, to identify new dates for that show.

NECANN’s goal is to maintain as much of each show’s original programming as possible. Any changes to speakers and programming will be announced as soon as possible.

“All exhibitor registrations and pre-sale tickets have been transferred to the new dates for Boston, and the same will be done for Illinois,” Shepard said. “We appreciate everyone’s understanding, patience and support. We are all in this together, and hope that the steps being taken have a positive impact on controlling this outbreak and protecting the health and safety of our communities.”

NECANN Boston To Be Re-scheduled Due To COVID-19 Concerns

MASSACHUSETTS: Due to the increasing concern and public health crisis due to the COVID-19
outbreak, the NECANN Boston convention, scheduled for March 20-22, is being postponed.
We are working with our venue partners and city officials to select a new date in 2020 and will update everyone as soon as we have specific information and details to share. All vendor registrations and pre-sale tickets will be honored for the new date. Please be advised that this postponement will impact the convention, the NE Canna Community awards show, and the NECANN Competition awards.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and support during this incredibly difficult time and this decision, and look forward to working with everyone to make this year’s event as successful as it has been for the last five years.
If anyone has any questions, please understand that we are still actively working with our partners to secure the new date and address this change, and ask that you wait before contacting us until we know exactly the new details and dates.
Thank you again on behalf of the NECANN family. We will see everyone soon and get through this together.

Former NFL linebacker Lofa Tatupu Will Headline 2020 New England Cannabis Convention in Boston

Ex-Seattle Seahawk is founder of “Zone In” line of CBD products

MASSACHUSETTS: Former All-Pro Seattle Seahawks linebacker Lofa Tatupu will headline the 2020 New England Cannabis Convention, which returns to the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, March 20-22nd, 2020.

In October 2019 Tatupu founded the CBD company Zone In following an NFL career that spanned six seasons and was cut short by injury.

“Rehabilitation from injury, enhanced recovery from training, and promoting overall wellness are some of the primary drivers behind the explosive growth and adoption of CBD and other cannabis products across the U.S.,” said Marc Shepard, co-founder and President of NECANN.  “We’re incredibly excited to have an athlete the caliber of Lofa Tatupu headlining what has become the Northeast’s annual meeting of the cannabis industry.”

Tatupu attended high school in Massachusetts – compiling a standout scholastic football career at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham. His father, and high school coach, was the late Mosi Tatupu – a former New England Patriots running back and special teams player and beloved New England sports figure. Lofa followed in his father’s footsteps by attending and playing football at USC. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2005.

“After a lengthy football career, my chronic pain, lethargy, and mental fogginess took over.  I was unfocused and unmotivated.  I wanted to find something that could help these issues I was facing. This led me to trying CBD,” said Tatupu.  “Just one week after my first dose my head was clear, pain was alleviated, and my mind and body felt connected. My old self was back. This is when I realized the transformative power of CBD. This is how the idea for ZoneIn was born.”

Joining Tatupu as second keynote will be Zone In Ambassador and fellow NFL alumnus Stedman Bailey – a one-time Los Angeles Rams receiver whose career was cut short by a violent 2015 attack in which he was shot twice in the head. Following a miraculous recovery, Bailey also began using CBD as part of his treatment regimen for seizures, anxiety and post-traumatic stress.

Over 300 vendors and more than 10,000 attendees are expected to attend the three-day NECANN Boston convention, one of the largest and most influential events of its kind in America. Other highlights include a panel discussion featuring Cannabis Control Commissioner Shaleen Title regarding the industry’s shared responsibilities surrounding social equity, an environmental sustainability panel, and two days of medical marijuana-related programming for patients and healthcare providers. NECANN Boston 2020 will be the largest NECANN event ever, and comes on the heels of the first full year of adult-use recreational cannabis stores being open in Massachusetts.

The 2020 NECANN Boston show will also feature three major initiatives recognizing excellence in cannabis product development and innovation, diversity and inclusion, and significant contributions by individuals and organizations that have done great things for the New England cannabis community and industry.

The 2nd Annual NE Cannabis Community Awards ceremony will take place on Friday evening March 20 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Hynes Convention Center. The Cannabis Community Awards is not a competition, but rather a platform to spotlight and celebrate members of the local community who have done exceptional work in the cannabis space. Final ballots are available now for voting. Tickets to the event are $30.

On Saturday evening, March 21, the Convention will host a supplier diversity event organized by Minorities 4 Medical Marijuana and ELEVATE Northeast. This action-oriented networking event is designed to connect minority-owned suppliers and vendors with cannabis business operators in Massachusetts as a means of increasing the number of awarded contracts going to minority businesses.

And finally, the first-ever NECANN Competition will present awards for the top product developments and innovations in cannabis flower, edibles, concentrates and topicals across nine categories – as well as ancillary non-cannabis products and equipment. Entries are being accepted through March 1, 2020. Winners in all categories will be recognized Sunday, March 24 in the Hynes Expo Hall.

“We believe the NECANN Competition awards will become one of the most significant cannabis industry honors that product developers and retailers can earn,” said Shepard. “It’s incredibly exciting to debut this event as we also mark the second year of the NE Cannabis Community Awards. The annual meeting of the cannabis industry is the ideal setting to recognize the very best in cannabis product developments, as well as the most dedicated advocates, supporters and promoters of the cannabis community and industry.”

Attendees at NECANN can network with more than 300 local and national cannabis industry businesses, talk with doctors and health care providers, explore investment & career opportunities, connect with advocacy groups, see the latest developments in lighting, soil, and growing equipment, and purchase a wide variety of accessories. Every facet of the cannabis industry is represented at NECANN Boston 2020. A full list of exhibitors is available at NECANN.com.

MASSACHUSETTS: As reporting on cannabis migrates to a broader range of media outlets and reporters covering this beat find themselves playing catch-up to deal with the daily developments of a growing industry, MJBA‘s Communications lead, Stu Zakim, will moderate a panel at the upcoming NECANN Conference in Boston.

The panel,  “Cannabis in the Media: Changing Attitudes, Access and Headlines, 2019,” is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at 3PM, at the Hynes Conference Center.   Zakim will be joined by a roster of senior editors from major media outlets including Dan Adams of the Boston Globe;  David Tran from DOPE Magazine; Kristin Jordan, of Manna Events, a weekly calendar listing of cannabis events and news; Brit Smith, on air personality for WBZ Radio/iHeartMedia Blunt Talk podcast; and Emmy winning sportscaster, now Cannabis-caster, Jimmy Young of Behind The Media and the Between The Weeds show.
