This Pack Of Weed Will Register You To Vote!

Introducing the Higher Ground Ballot Box

To celebrate National Voter Registration Week (Sept. 22nd – 28th), Higher Ground and Saints Joints has created The Ballot Box. The elegant voter pack contains a QR code that immediately registers voters, a mini version of the Bill of Rights, non-partisan information about voting and elections. It also includes five premium cannabis joints to help fire up voter activity in the democratic process.

“The Ballot Box is a new platform to spark engagement, and register new voters,” notes Higher Ground Editor-in-Chief Michael A. Stusser. “In addition to helping get out the vote in 2020, it will also put folks in a damn good mood till Election Day.”

Higher Ground TV has been using humorous viral videos and parodies to elevate the dialogue on cannabis culture, including Comedians in Cars Smoking Cannabis, and Profiles in Legal Cannabis. Their latest project is a joint effort with Saints Joints, an innovative marijuana company based in Seattle.

Saints Joints is one of the most successful cannabis brands in the country, collaborating with a variety of artists and musicians. Their hard-cased luxury boxes have highlighted artists such as the Bay Area’s Jeremy Fish in their Artist’s Series packs, a Tattoo Art Series featuring Jimbo Phillips , and a Limited Edition Pride Pack with proceeds benefiting Equal Rights organizations. Each specialty box is a limited edition similar to album covers, and creating a rock n’roll collect-‘em-all incentive.

“We see ourselves as leaders not only in the arena of legal cannabis, but as members of the mainstream community,” said Lawrence Perrigo, founder of Saints. “The collaboration with Higher Ground is our latest joint effort to raise awareness, and show how cannabis brands – and consumers – are doing more than getting high. We’re also highly engaged in the democratic process.”

Racial disparities in cannabis are also reflected in the current Black Lives Matter movement. “When we dreamed up this project, we never envisioned the incredible Black Lives Matter movement we are seeing,” notes Perrigo. “But as with so many issues, people of color are more negatively effected by the War on Drugs. Black people are four times more likely to be arrested for possession – even though whites and blacks use cannabis at the similar rates. People voting to make policy change in these areas is more important that ever.”

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. First observed in 2012, it has quickly gained momentum ever since. Nearly 3 million voters have registered to vote on the holiday to date. The holiday has been endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).

“We thought it was important to include the Bill of Rights in our Ballot Box,” said Stusser, “because these individual rights weren’t originally included in the Constitution. Like the legalization of marijuana, the people had to push the government to allow it.” The Bill of Rights, of course, includes the first 10 amendments in the Constitution, including freedom of speech, religion and the press, the right to assemble, States rights, and due process.

Thirty-three states have legalized marijuana for medical use, and another eleven, plus the District of Columbia, have authorized recreational sales and consumption for adults. Thomas Jefferson argued in 1787 for the right to be free from warrantless search and seizures: “A bill of rights is what the people are entitled to against every government on earth, general or particular, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference.” While the Father of the Declaration wasn’t speaking of cannabis legalization at the time, his words ring true for activists supporting the movement.

The Ballot Box includes a special QR code that directs to the Cannabis Voter Project – and immediately registers individuals to vote. Established in 2018 as an initiative from HeadCount, the nonprofit and non-partisan Cannabis Voter Project is focused on educating, registering and turning out voters. HeadCount has registered half a million voters since 2004 at concerts and events. The Ballot Box link includes an easy-to-use online registration page and news to keep voters informed on election deadlines and voting locations.

Higher Ground explores and celebrates the elevated aspects of getting high. Founded during a revolutionary time of economic and spiritual transformation in the legalization movement, the brand documents and chronicles this incredible era in our history, and advocates for the legalization of cannabis (along with civil rights, gay rights, and human rights), and embraces the end of – yet another – prohibition.

Members of the abolitionist press, Higher Ground combines advocacy journalism with a sense of humor to bring the cannabis culture to the masses.

The Higher Ground Legal Stash Box! CoronaVirus Edition

A Highly Curated Cannabis Collection

The Coronavirus is a global pandemic, and to be taken seriously. And while we’re following scientific advice and protocols, we’re also aware of the need to medicate – which is where the Higher Ground Legal Stash Box: CoronaVirus Edition comes in. Curated from legal markets across the country, we’ve hand-selected the items to help you continue using cannabis for a health buzz – as well as sanitizers, hemp masks and CBD to calm our nerves in this very strange time.
Some common-sense info for the canna-community during the CoronaVirus outbreak include the following: Don’t share joints, vapes, pipes or bongs. If you do share a smoking device, have a disinfectant wipe handy to swap the piece before sharing. Obviously, if you’re feeling sick – skip any smoking or recreational cannabis session. COVID-19 causes infections in the nose, throat and lungs. Since – over time – smoking cannabis can impact lung health, it’s best to take a break from smoking or vaping until you’re feeling better or have been tested. Finally, maintain social distancing, even among friends at smoke sessions. One person on a recliner, another pacing the room, and a third on the couch will do the trick. Just be smart, follow guidelines, and common sense.
The notable selections in this Higher Ground Legal Stash Box, CoronaVirus Edition include:
The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies). Luckily, we can support businesses using hemp and promote cannabis through the masks we purchase and wear. An example of reusable, breathable and washable hemp face masks with a natural hemp filter is a great option. The hemp fibre filter is encased in cotton for comfort and make the face mask easy to wash for reuse.
While we have one of these insane contraptions below in the Higher Ground office, it is NOT recommended to replace an actual mask, and should be used with caution. (Wearing a mask when you go out not only protects the user, but others who may become infected.)
The use of edibles can eliminate exposure to potential lung irritants entirely, and Kin Slips is an innovative and slick option. Kin Slips was founded by a passionate group of entrepreneurs hell-bent on reimagining cannabis and developing the most efficient products around. Their commitment to providing an alternative cannabis consumption experience began with these sublingual strips —a infused product that is discreet and all-natural, and provides health and wellness conscious consumers with a consistent, smoke-free cannabis experience. Kin Slips dissolve under the tongue to deliver a precise dose of CBD or THC. Unlike traditional edibles, Kin Slips absorb directly into the bloodstream to bypass the digestive system, enabling an onset of about 15 minutes and are available in standard dose (10MG) and micro-dose (5MG) formulas, which allow consumers easy control over their preferred experience that’s tailored by the variations they offer; Creativity and Focus, Comfort and Relief and Sleep and Serenity. In our box are “Park Life” strips, minty fresh with hints of tumeric, each has a 10:1 ratio of CBD to THC that works nicely to help take the edge off – like a stroll in the park.
Many folks are stressed to the max, and having difficulty sleeping; it’s no wonder – we have a reality-show buffoon running the sitch. There are many sleep-aid options in the cannabis world, including CBD-rich gummies, transdermal patches, and capsules with CBD and melatonin. One of our favorite ways to end the evening is via the Beboe Downtime Vaporizer. Beboe is a luxury cannabis brand, and their gorgeous rose gold pen comes in a glass test tube (we admit it – we are obsessed with cool packaging), with a letterpresses label in gold foil. The Beboe Indica Downtime vape pen is intended for quiet evenings at home, great for reducing anxiety and winding down. A relaxing combination of the choicest Indica-dominant strains makes the Downtime Pen an excellent way to smooth out life’s stresses at the end of a long day, and is a go-to cure for stress and insomnia without any of the usual next-day grogginess.
The Nuggy is the Swiss Army Knife for potheads – and Lord KNOWS what challenges lie ahead in this Corona-ClusterF*ck. While others stock up on AK-47s, chainsaws and ATVs, we prefer tools we can use – like the “Original Smoker’s Multi-Tool!” The Nuggy is a 10-in-One, pocket friendly multi-tool designed specifically for smokers. This stoner-survival tool has everything a real connoisseur could possibly need to help with rolling, cutting, shredding, dabbing, scraping, poking and vaping all packed into one durable unit. The designers have managed to fit 10 must have spring-locking tools into this super compact pocket size device including: a knife, scissors, roach clip, tamper, mini spoon, herb bowl scraper, bottle opener, flat head screwdriver, pointy pick AND an LED flashlight! Cuz, you know, it’s kind of dark out right now…
For those of us who just like the wonderful tradition of smoking a joint, we’re including Mini Joints in the CoronaVirus Stash Box. With small doobies (aka DogWalkers), joints are small enough for a single person using it without the threat of passing on a virus through saliva exchange. Also, kind of hard to be socially distant while passing the blunt.
Island Minis: With five 0.5 gram pre-rolls in each box, Island all-flower Minis are the perfect combination of fun and flavor. Island is a for-benefit organization, and their commitment extends beyond providing cannabis that is both safe and effective. Island actively supports organizations focused on positive social change and have made it part of their mission to give back to our community.
TRIPLE J’S ORIGINAL MINI JOINTS come in different blends to suit every lifestyle; Hybrid, Indica, Sativa and Enhanced with Kief. Known for quality, convenience, and reliability, Triple J’s are assembled by hand in a process that ensures the best quality experience every time without the hassle of rolling your own.
Tinctures are a great way to consume cannabis, and there are a million combinations of THC, CBD and plant materials to fine-tune a particular experience or relief. Sativa Valley Blueberry CBD tincture is formulated to help reduce anxiety, inflammation, and aid in insomnia relief. Paired with a variety of fruit extract flavors, their organic sublingual tincture is placed under the tongue to produce different effects depending on the serving size: calming and anxiety relief effects at low milligram servings sizes, while anti-inflammatory and muscle pain relief is achieved with medium to higher milligram serving sizes. Best of all, Sativa Valley participates in “Wildcrafting” – an age-old practice of collecting plant materials in their natural habitat for food, medicine, and craft.
We know that COVID-19 attacks the respiratory system and is more dangerous for people with additional health issues. While clearly not mandated, people may consider limiting or refraining from smoking as a cautious prevention method. Vaporizers, multi-chamber water pipes, and edibles are simple going to be better on the lungs. The DaVinci MIQRO and IQ Vaporizers, for example, are ultra-portable vapes designed for the solo vape connoisseur, convection-cooking your cannabis to the perfect temp – and not causing lung irritation.
As insomnia affects around 30% of Americans and can pose greater risk factors for those suffering from chronic pain, cardiovascular disease, and mental disorders, many are finding relief through cannabis to sleep through the night. We like the wok of Lord Jones, who manufactures some of the world’s finest hemp-derived CBD infused topicals and ingestibles. Lord Jones gumdrops and chews are made by hand in small batches with the finest ingredients and CBD extract derived from select hemp cultivated in the USA. Their hemp-derived CBD oil retains the plant’s original terpenes and phytocannabinoids for broad and full spectrum formulations, and are lab-tested to ensure proper purity and potency. One of our favorite canna-collaborations are their work with the great band Sigur Ros. Together they created cannabidiol-infused (CBD-infused) gumdrops called “Wild Sigurberry!” The limited-edition collection of medicated gumdrops are a “proprietary terpene blend designed to provide a calming sense of well-being inspired by the music of Sigur Rós, “Wild Sigurberry” was inspired by the flavors of foraged berries from the band’s home country – and we’re inspired by the teamwork.
Wash your hands early & often! We all know the drill – and we’re personally using the first verse from Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds” as our washing duration song!
When soap and water are not readily available, the use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer is equally effective. Hand Sanitizers by Dr. Bronners Soap are essential tools to help keep Covid-19 from spreading and help maintain public health. And Dr. Bronners has always been the coolest all-organic company around, leading the charge to be eco-friendly, and donating to wonderful pro-cannabis organizations. Most recently, Dr. Bronners is working on campaigns for more widespread therapeutic use of psilocybin, the psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms, donating a million dollars to a legalize psilocybin therapy initiative in Oregon.Family-owned and run since 1948, Dr. Bronners are allotting a reserve of 2% of all hand sanitizer production to donate to at-risk communities and the organizations that serve them, so they have access to the hand sanitizer as well, and are continuing to work with advocates and service providers to get their products in the hands of those who need them most during this public health crisis.

“Life is just a bowl of cherries.”

Originating as the title of a song (1931) by Lew Brown (lyrics) and composer Ray Henderson, this term expressed the idea that everything was going very well – and life was wonderful. (Today it’s often used ironically, but we’re looking on the bright side.) Clearly, things are quite odd in our CoronaVirus realm. But we’ll make it through, and hope to accentuate the positive – and something that’s pretty darn great are Goodship Tart CHERRY Pastilles. Tart and fruity, Goodship confections are made from all-natural, locally-sourced and sustainable ingredients. Each “sweet tart” pastille is micro dosed at 2.5mg per piece, giving a consistent, uplifting and delicious experience each go-round. Best of all, Goodship tarts come in a beautiful embossed tin – which you can put joints and buds in when the pastilles are long gone.

Higher Ground Holdings To Aquire High Times & Industry’s Top Cannabis Content

Sale Price: $9340 (plus unopened box of Dead bootlegs).

Re-Branded Venture to be called High Leafly Cannabis Culture Times

HOLLYWEED, CA: In a stunning move, the world’s largest satirical cannabis conglomerate, Higher Ground LLCBD, announced the purchase of dozens of cannabis sites and magazines this week, aggressively moving to centralize stoner cliches in one place.

Speaking at MJ BizCon in Las Vegas, CEO Michael A. Stusser said the deal had been a long time coming. “How many stories about Seth Rogen or close-up pics of stank bud do you really need?” Stusser exhaled. “Our acquisition will enable us to consolidate the various marijuana brands – and by that I mean snuff ‘em out like a smokin’ roach.”

In obtaining High Times Holding (publisher of High Times magazine, Culture, Dope Magazine and Green Rush Daily) Higher Ground will have the chance to corner the “boobs and bongs” market (aka weed porn), along with re-licensing dozens of Cannabis Cups to Starbucks. Among those snapped up in the take-over were magazines and “lifestyle brands” Marijuana Business Daily, Sensi, Skunk, Grow, Marijuana Venture, Merry Jane, mg Retailer, Civilized, the Fresh Toast, Herb, CULTURE, Green Entrepreneur, Ganjepreneur, Freedom Leaf, Gossamer, Broccoli, Cannabis Now and MassRoots, allowing Higher Ground to control the vast majority of cannabis content, and assure the number of puns and cliches to go up in smoke.

In the first official move after the purchase, Stusser instituted what is known as The Tommy Chong Rule: In order to modernize and reach new demographics, the Cheech & Chong legend is banned from appearing in any additional marijuana media until the year 4020. Future bans said to include Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Whoopi, Martha Stewart, Joe Rogan, Bill Maher, Miley Cyrus and Chelsea Handler. (Not mentioned: Rihanna, Jason Silva and, surprisingly, Woody Harrelson.)

highergtv logoReportedly, Higher Ground Holdings wanted to keep the transaction under $10,000 to avoid a Federal SAR (Suspicious Activities Report) filing by the bank.  “We spent about $9500, and traded away some valuable assets.” (Rumored to be a box of Jerry Garcia bootlegs on 8-track cassette.) “Basically, we bought a database of every single person who’s ever fired up a fatty,” said Stusser. “We’ll send ‘em all a copy of Fertilizer Today, our agribusiness trade title – which we also own – and are currently shopping…” Official figures could not be independently verified. When reporters asked for documentation, Stusser said he would share them at the Grasslands VIP Party, but then asked assembled press if anyone had tickets for said event.

“Our goal is to offer customized mainstream video content productions and licensed extensions for cannabis service agencies across the sub and pop-culture spectrums,” said Al Olson, Higher Ground Editor-in-Chief. “And get into the whole CBD-thing, whatever the hell that is. Hemp too!”

An unnamed source also reported that Leafly, owned by Privateer Holdings, was thrown into Higher Ground’s aggressive take-over at the last minute. The insider said the site and app was ditched in order for Privateer to concentrate on making an actual profit – emphasizing their stable of weed-growing companies, including Tilray. Tilray’s partnership with brewing giant Anheuser-Busch InBev makes them less interested in un-profitable pot content. Of the deal, Privateer’s non-cannabis using billionaire CEO Brendan Kennedy said, “Oh, thank god. We’ve been wanting to get Leafly off our books for a decade now, and keep our focus on the beer bong business.”

“We also tried to buy Future State Brands (PROHBTD), MedMen (Embers) and Civilized (New Frontier Data),” noted Higher Ground’s CFO “but by the time we got the paperwork lined up, they’d all burned through so much seed money, they had to abandon their swank offices – and we had no way to reach them.” In a related non-move, Canna Law Blog was NOT acquired in the deal, as they are…well, lawyers, and have positive cash flow.

Michael Stusser and Higher Ground TV captured this year's Hot Pot Products

Michael Stusser & Higher Ground TV: This Xmas We’re Banning Tommy Chong!

Higher Ground’s blockbuster acquisition was announced at the Vegas trade show, MJ Biz Con. BizCon parent company MJ Biz Daily was ALSO swallowed up in the mega-deal. “With a hostile hippie takeover of MJ Biz Daily, we can consolidate all these dope-fiends under one tent – literally,” noted Stusser from his small mid-aisle booth at the trade show. “I mean, The Emerald Cup, CannaCon, CHAMPS, the Cannabis Congress, New West Summit!? Hempfest! How many places do these potheads need to buy a glass pipe, anyway?”

Like so many of the recent corporate buy-outs of alternative weeklies across the country, the Higher Ground deal seems similarly nefarious. “Our main goal, of course, is to fire as many good reporters as possible,” Stusser explained, “and get down to the real business of being stoned to the Bejesus. Frankly, we’d like to sell the whole she-bang to the Huffington Post. We always wanted to be called The Puffington Post – and this is our chance.”

Officials at High Times Holdings were not available for comment. When reporters tried calling the phone number listed in SEC documents, a recording with Bob Marley’s “ Waiting in Vain” played. The mailbox was full. No additional calls to media companies or employees were made before press time.

Higher Ground is a global viral marketing company focusing on Elevating the Dialogue on Cannabis Culture. (Kind of….) Their flagship show is described as “The Daily Show meets Good Morning America, just with a giant bong on the desk.” For more information about the mega-merger, visit www.highergroundtv.com or www.michaelstusser.com

WATCH: Alexa And Siri Star In Hilarious New Parody.

Campaign Promotes the National Day of Unplugging

What if, instead of answering every command, Siri and Alexa encouraged you to try and figure out a few things…yourself? That’s the premise of the humorous new parody which encourages us to rely less on our digital devices, and “Use It Or Lose It.” Award-winning filmmakers Michael Stusser and Marty Riemer (“Sleeping with Siri”) collaborated on the video to coincide with the National Day of Unplugging (March 1st).

“We wanted to do something fun to bring attention to the National Day of Unplugging,” notes Stusser. “I think the notion of having our “Smart Devices” push back a little bit – “Stop asking so many stupid questions!” is a crack-up. It’s the idea that, If you Google everything, you won’t remember anything.”

dayofunplugging

In the faux-commercial, a man (Stusser) is gently coaxed by his various Digital Assistants to try and use his own cognitive skills – so as to continue to sharpen his memory, math skills and sense of direction. The video pokes fun at how reliant we’ve all become on our newfangled smart “assistants” for even the most simple tasks, and warns of the potential for “digital dementia.”

“The main goal of these projects – tech timeouts and digital blackouts – is just to get people thinking about ways to find balance,” states journalist Stusser. “It’s fine to use Siri to call for reservations, or have Alexa order more toilet paper. But, every once in a while, calculate a tip on your own, or try and remember your Mom’s phone number. If you want to go really crazy – how about committing to a device-free dinner?!”

The filmmakers’ documentary “Sleeping with Siri” illustrated the importance of finding balance in an era of digital madness, and won a variety of film festival awards (including The American Documentary Film Festival, Big Easy, and Hollywood Film Fest).  After the success of the doc, the team created The Tech Timeout Academic Challenge, a program which asks young people to set aside their digital devices for up to a week in order to understand and appreciate concepts like using the library, playing board games, and finding your own way home. The program has been conducted in over 1,000 schools across the country, and is the basis for an upcoming follow-up documentary.

Journalist Michael A. Stusser has written for mental_floss, the New York Times, Village Voice and Seattle Weekly. His “Digital Madness”column appears in the Good Men Project. He is also the author of The Dead Guy Interviews (Penguin USA). Marty Riemer, who did the post-production and direction for the video, runs Twisted Scholar, an educational production company. The cinematographer for the “Use It Or Lose It” video is Mark Goodnow, of The Production Foundry.

“Use It Or Lose It” drops in advance of The National Day of Unplugging – which is on Friday, March 1st and 2nd. Now in its 10th year, this tech-free holiday consists of a 24 hour period from sundown to sundown, to unplug, unwind, relax and do things other than using technology, electronics, and social media. The idea is to disconnect (for a while) from digital devices, and connect with ourselves and our loved ones in real time.

In the real world, of course, Siri and Alexa will not encourage you to unplug anything. Finding tech-free moments, digital blackouts and screen-free time will only come about by creating those moments for ourselves, one hour at a time, one day at a time. So, why not start now? Why not try the National Day of Unplugging? The mind is like a muscle: Use it… or lose it.

The sensual lube has both THC and CBD, as well as a custom terpene blend designed specifically for sexuality. As Velvet Swing founder Mistress Matisse explains, “THC is a vasodilator, and it sharply increases blood flow to the intimate areas where it’s applied, resulting in very sweetly swollen and sensitized bits. It also stimulates your own natural lubrication. We often refer to Velvet Swing as “liquid foreplay”, and when you try it, you’ll see why!” The combo can improve blood flow, sensation, and orgasmic potential – and who wouldn’t like some of that?! The tagline pretty much says it all: ”Better Orgasms.”

VelvetKiss

With a formula designed specifically to stimulate sensuality and enhance your sexual experience, the Passion pen delivers euphoria (and, for some, with a dominant THC formula, perhaps TOO much euphoria). Crafted in small batches, they’re lovingly handmade in the tradition of Victoria confectionaries. The decadent Pink Sapphire bar contains CBD and THC, and is perfect for a relaxing and unwinding on date night.

BONBOMBS

The Leira Cannagar: Better than ugly slippers, silly boxers or nasty-scented cologne, a Canna-Gar is perf for St. Valentine’s special day! CannaGars are small-batch cannabis cigars, using the finest flower from grower Gold Leaf Gardens. Each cigar is hand-rolled, and cured. The 6” Corona is full of 10 ounces of primo ganja, then covered in 3 grams of rosin oil – then wrapped in at least two layers of handsome, pure cannabis leaves, making it the most luxurious cigar on the market.

Saints Joints: The exquisite box from Saints and Gold Leaf Gardens is as good as getting jewelry. Gold Leaf reaches back to the botanical roots of the rich Hawaiian islands. Saints also has created The Artist’s Series Pack, a five joint multi-strain sampler collection of all-organic first-rate flower. A percentage of their Limited Edition Pride Packs go to Equal Rights Washington.

SAINTSRose

RED ROSES: Ya didn’t think we’d leave out an actual rose, did you!? The best option here, of course, is to grow your own flowers to give as gifts. You can also give a living plant that will grow in your garden for years to come, reminding you of that special person and day. For ganja flowers, you might consider a Valentine’s bouquet from Lowell Farms!

lowellbouqet

If you are buying a dozen roses for your loved one, please consider locally grown organic flowers, as this means fewer “flower miles,” and also ask that your local florist switch from plastic cellophane wrapping to butcher’s paper. Growers who have taken steps to minimize ecological impacts and improve worker conditions include Veriflora and Florverde.

EDITORS NOTE: (Sadly), the Higher Ground Legal Stash Box is not available for purchase. Stay tuned to MJHeadline news where we will continue to curate the best in legal cannabis, and highlight the most  innovative and elegant brands in upcoming Higher Ground Legal Stash Boxes.

The Higher Ground Legal Stash Box, Micro-Dose Edition! A Highly Curated Cannabis Collection

By Michael A. Stusser

Cannabis is getting customized, and consumers are dialing in their doses. A popular new trend is “micro-dosing” – taking a small amount of a cannabis product so as to get a nice buzz, without being TOO high. Individuals can then add incrementally as they fine-tune their comfort level. Micro-dosing is also often used for therapeutic purposes – to relive pain or anxiety (with higher doses of THC), or to improve mood or heighten creativity. Micro-dosing is great for folks getting back into the ganja game, allowing consumers to go slow and increase dosages in small increments.

Curated from legal markets across the country, this month’s Higher Ground Legal Stash Box is highlighting the best in micro-dosing – including low-dose edibles, tinctures, pastilles and controlled-dose vaporizers. Hand selected by Michael Stusser, host of Higher Ground TV, the items in each anthology represent the gold standard of legal offerings for cannabis connoisseurs!

HGMicroBoxTallThe notable selections in this month’s Higher Ground Legal Stash Box include:

DaVinci MIQRO Vaporizer. Far too many high-end vaporizers are bulky and not designed for those on-the-go (or in formal wear). Luckily, the folks at DaVinci have crafted an ultra-portable vape designed to fit the out-and-about lifestyle. The MIQRO is 33% smaller than its predecessor (also a well-built beauty), and designed for the solo vape connoisseur, convection-cooking your cannabis to the perfect temp. Excellent for hitting at a concert, outdoor session, or out for the night, eventually you’ll wind up taking the MIQRO pretty much everywhere.

Wyld Canna. Based in Oregon, WYLD uses real-fruit ingredients to make some of the best tasting edibles in legal cannabis. Their Raspberry gummies are made with real fruit and are enhanced with sativa terpenes that assist in creating euphoric and energizing experiences.  Ideal for keeping you focused on the task at hand, refining your creative endeavors, or getting you out on your next inventive expedition! WYLD celebrates our highest ambitions and adventurous lifestyles, allowing consumers to enjoy what brings us together.

Sativa Valley. Sativa Valley Blueberry CBD tincture is formulated to help reduce anxiety, inflammation, and aid in insomnia relief. Paired with a variety of fruit extract flavors, their tinctures are grown on an organic farm in the Olympic Mountains of Washington. The sublingual tincture is placed under the tongue to produce different effects depending on the serving size: calming and anxiety relief effects at low milligram servings sizes, while anti-inflammatory and muscle pain relief is achieved with medium to higher milligram serving sizes. Best of all, Sativa Valley participates in “Wildcrafting” – an age-old practice of collecting plant materials in their natural habitat for food, medicine, and craft.

Kiva Terra Bites: KIVA’s Terra Bites are almost too delicious – as you don’t want to be popping handfuls of chocolate-covered THC coffee beans all day long. In moderation, however, Terra Bites are a great microdosing option. Hand-crafted and using all natural ingredients, these featured Terra Bites use milk chocolate, cocoa powder and US-grown blueberries. YumBuzz!

highergtv logoZOOTS. ZootRocks are a damn good way to begin experimenting with micro-dosing. Each ZootRock contains just 5mg of THC, so it’s easy to control the experience. The featured Lemongrass nuggets have a tart sweetness blended with a Cypress THC Extract. They’re handmade from naturally sourced ingredients, and sugar and gluten-free, providing a good introduction (or re-introduction) to cannabis.

Mari’s Mints: Mari’s cannabis-infused mints come it a variety of flavors and formulas (Move, Retire, Replenish) tailored to fit your day. Featuring sativa (for an energy boost and creative juice), indica (for Netflixxing and Chill) or CBD for pain relief, the mints are crafted with precision to deliver consistent doses. An extra bonus? The groovy tins can be used as stash box for storing your weed!

Mr. Moxey’s Mints. Moxey’s micro dosed mints are crafted in small batches and formulated with herbal synergists tailored to elevate the experience. Texas Medicine and Railroad Gin: Lessons From Prohibition

By Michael A. Stusser

The 18th Amendment revoked the sales and use of alcohol in the United States in 1919. Shocking as it may seem that such an act could become law, the roots of Prohibition were complex (people were drinking too damn much canned heat) – and misguided. The government created a campaign to scare Americans about liquor with propaganda that looks shockingly similar to another era of prohibition – the one launched against marijuana use. (Not surprisingly, Americans continued boozing it up – through home distilleries making moonshine, private speakeasies, and mob-led bootlegging.)

highergtv logo

We’re highlighting the shared journey of alcohol and cannabis prohibition – because they’re retroactively such hilarious images – and we can learn many lessons from these historical documents as we continue to fight for the legalization (and decriminalization) of weed. Laws attempting to legislate morality and ban items that are not evil or against public welfare have never worked – but Bless ‘Em for Trying!

Here’s a look at some of the ways both Prohibition and Reefer Madness were marketed to the masses

"Medicinal Whiksky" and "MJ Medicine"

“Medicinal Whiksky” and “MJ Medicine”

Before Prohibition (as with cannabis), alcohol was frequently touted to help with various ailments. Here is a bottle of bonded “medicinal whiskey” labelled “for Medicinal Purposes Only.” Cannabis, of course, has been helping with chronic pain, stress, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, glaucoma, cancer and much more for centuries.

AntiSaloon
An “Anti-Saloon League” was formed to promote prohibition. (The group became popular with many inside the government after passage of the income tax amendment in 1913 – as they were no longer dependent on booze to fund operations.) This is from their newspaper, The American Issue, from Jan. 25, 1919.

Screenshot 2018-07-27 13.54.26While women were major backers of the early Temperance Campaigns, they also rallied for Repeal of Prohibition. Women are, of course, also leading the legalization movement and many are CEOs of prominent cannabis companies and organizations.

TemperanceAbuse
As early as 1871, the campaign against spirits had begun. Here is a Temperance illustration of a drunk man hitting his wife. Much of the prohibition propaganda was sold as a way to protect women and children from boozing hubbies and fathers coming home wasted from work, drinking his paycheck away and raising hell and havoc.

Straight to the Point. The bottle or your best girl!

Asking American to choose their country or their cocktail, posters like these advocated for Prohibition during World War I.

Screenshot 2018-07-27 14.06.39
A far cry from biblical verse (“Wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts”), firewater was eventually sold to the masses as dangerous, deadly rotgut.

ReeferMadnessMove
In 1936 the now infamous film Reefer Madness was released, warning Mom & Pops about the dangers of weed by showing a group of pot-smoking teenagers descending into a hellscape of murder, madness, suicide and violence after firing up a fatty. Yikes!

DavilsHarvest
Similar to the Prohibition propaganda attempting to scare wives about drunken husbands, this 1942 film used the Devil himself to put the fear of God into families.

Screenshot 2018-07-27 14.11.10
Like films such as Reefer Madness and Assassin of Youth, Marihuana attempted to scare the Bejesus out of the general public with absurd claims of cannabis leading to wild orgies (if only!), impregnation, heroin addiction and, yes, kidnapping. That’s some strong ganja!

prohibcelebration
PROHIBITION REPEALED! Oh Happy Day! By 1933, Americans had had more than enough prohibition, and public opposition had become overwhelming. First Congress passed an act legalizing beer and wine, and by December of 1933 Utah became the 36th State to ratify the 22nd Amendment – repealing the 18th (Prohibition) and restoring the sale and manufacture of alcohol.

Screenshot 2018-07-27 14.16.44And soon, we’ll have a National Celebration for the Legalization of Cannabis!

Higher Ground TV Crashes Adweek With Irreverent Cannabis Campaign

Hollyweed, CA: Higher Ground TV launched a “Marijuana vs. Cannabis” campaign at AdWeek to bring awareness of the benefits of legalization. Parodying Rolling Stone’s acclaimed “Perception vs. Reality” campaign of the 1980s (Fallon McElligott agency), the new ads instead use the words “marijuana” and “cannabis” to juxtapose the past history of Reefer Madness with the new era of legalization.

Each ad highlights a different aspect of the evolution of legal cannabis; the first ad shows a dirty bong opposite a modern vaporizer (a CannaCloud, the Keurig for Cannabis), with statistics on changing attitudes – and intake methods. The second ad compares headshops to recreational cannabis stores, emphasizing tax revenue, and the fact legal stores check IDs.

“While support for legalization is at an all-time high (65%), the vast majority of people haven’t really experienced what legal cannabis looks like,” stated Higher Ground Editor-in-Chief Michael A. Stusser. “These ads highlight safer growing methods, the millions raised in tax revenues and the medical benefits of pot. Our goal? National legalization – and decriminalization. Oh, and to promote our new talk show…”

Higher Ground is a new web series that spotlights the emerging canna-culture through humorous clip-show monologues, celebrity interviews, on-the-street field pieces (with periodically stoned correspondents), and parodies. “It’s The Daily Show meets Good Morning America….” says Stusser, “just with a giant bong on the desk.”

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqsOWTkHVrw&w=560&h=315]

Previous Higher Ground projects have included a “Comedians in Cars Smoking Cannabis” parody, an ad that ran in states voting on legalization last November (“Cannabis Clicker”), a weedWatch campaign, and a re-mix of Cheech & Chong’s famous hitchhiking scene from “Up in Smoke.”

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPUBjbsSVA8&w=560&h=315]

“We’re using traditional formats like talk shows and ad campaigns and parodies to highlight modern cannabis culture,” said Stusser. “I think it’s important to explore marijuana with a sense of humor to truly reach, inform and move the masses.”

Five “Marijuana vs. Cannabis” ads were released this week for AdWeek, with another five to run for AdWeek London and AdWeek Latin America and AdWeek Europe. The ads are running on Facebook and other social media sites, as well as MJ Channel One and in print in the MJ Green Pages and alternative weeklies.

Cannabis isn’t just about getting as high as a kite. In additional to the legalization taking place across the country, cannabis is leading to mind-boggling medical breakthroughs, innovative products and inventions, as well as celebrity brands involving health, lifestyle and beauty. From gourmet edibles to Marijuana Moms to a growing number of seniors embracing cannabis for arthritis, pot culture is becoming pop culture. Rather than shy away from this emerging movement, Higher Ground explores it with an entertaining- and professional – attitude.

From Reefer Madness to Cannabis Connoisseur: Support at all All-time High.
Fifty-five million Americans currently use marijuana (22% of the population), and over half of all adults have tried it. Support for legalization is at an all-time high (nearly 65%) – as is the support for medical marijuana (88%). Of the 55 million cannabis users, a majority of those (52%) are millennials. Surprisingly, 54% of the adults who use pot are parents. The hard-hitting and topical Jon Stewart-brand of journalism is also more popular than ever (including The Daily Show, and alumni Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee and John Oliver). Higher Ground embraces this approach – using advocacy journalism along with a sense of humor to bring the cannabis culture to the masses.

Ninety-five percent of the U.S. population currently lives in a state with some form of legal access to marijuana. Recreationally legal in nine States (including California, the sixth-largest economy in the World), another 29 states (plus D.C.) have laws on the books for medical marijuana. This cultural zeitgeist is not only increasing viewing limits, it’s bringing it audiences in key demographics who want smart, informative and entertaining programming about the people and products behind modern-day cannabis.

Cannabis is the fastest growing industry in the country.
Marijuana sales in North America reached $7 billion in 2016, and is expected to jump to $21 billion by 2021. Higher Ground highlights the innovations, trends, and ganjapreneurs involved in this Green Rush. Whether it’s breaking political news on legalization initiatives, innovations in cannabis health, or talking to the artists and entertainers inspired by the wacky weed, Higher Ground has cannabis content covered. And, of course, Higher Ground explores and embraces the elevated aspects of getting high. Whether it’s Stoned Symphony Nights, demonstrating the Keurig for Cannabis, or highlighting the World’s 1st Marijuana Drive-Through, we hit the high-lights.

Higher Ground’s “Cannabis Clicker” Turns The Channel On Reefer Madness

WASHINGTON: Seattle-based multi-media company Higher Ground has created a new ad to support legalization reform efforts across the country. “Cannabis Clicker” will air in the five States with recreational legalization ballots: California, Maine, Nevada, Arizona and Massachusetts. The ad will also run in States with medical marijuana votes – including Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas, North Dakota and Montana. All told, nine states will be voting on ballot initiatives related to legalizing and regulating cannabis on November 8th.

“We wanted to use the old reefer madness propaganda as part of our ad,” noted Editor-in-Chief Michael A. Stusser, “and juxtapose it with what’s really going on.” The ad, titled “Cannabis Clicker,” shows side-by-side living rooms, one playing anti-drug commercials and films from a now by-gone era, while the set in the modern living room plays news stories about legalization from the past few years. “Sometimes it’s best just to let the story tell itself,” Stusser notes. “Teen drug use has actually gone down since legalization, massive taxes have been raised, there has been no increase in traffic fatalities – and the sky has not fallen.”

The Cannabis Clicker ad uses clips from the original Reefer Madness movie, the infamous “Your Brain on Drugs” PSA, as well as modern day news clips featuring studies and research related to the legalization of marijuana.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZTvbuijlU8&w=560&h=315]

Based out of Seattle, where recreational marijuana was legalized in 2012, Higher Ground is attempting to “Elevate the Dialogue” and broaden the movement nationally. While legal in Washington, Colorado, Alaska and Oregon, the use, sale or distribution of cannabis is still a felony at the federal level, and over 700,000 Americans are arrested every year for marijuana-related offenses. The parody ad has been provided to all the pro-legalization campaigns, and is being used both on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and VIMEO) as well as paid television in selected markets in California and Nevada.
