NECANN Expands Again In 2019

January 10, 2019 by MJ News Network Leave a Comment

New England’s longest-running cannabis convention series expands to Springfield, Massachusetts and New Jersey

MASSACHUSETTS: NECANN, producers of the two largest cannabis industry conventions on the East Coast (in Boston and Portland, ME) announced the addition of two new events making it the largest cannabis convention series in the world. After adding three new markets in 2018 (Reno NV, Burlington VT, and Salt Lake City Utah), NECANN is adding new shows in Springfield MA (June 22-23) and Trenton, NJ (September 14-15) in 2019, to bring their total number of annual events up to 8.

With the state’s recreational program now active and growing rapidly, NECANN is excited to bring its business and education platform to Western Massachusetts in June. “The marketplace for recreational cannabis use has exploded in Worcester County and throughout the Berkshires,” says President and Co-Founder Marc Shepard, “making Springfield a perfect location for a NECANN convention.

In New Jersey the Governor, Senate, and Assembly Committees are all on board for the legalization of adult use cannabis in New Jersey, possibly in 2019. “We’re excited to work with local leaders, advocacy groups, and businesses to host the first New Jersey Cannabis Convention,” says Jeff Lawrence, Co-Founder and New Market Director.

NECANN’s flagship Boston event (March 22-24), now in it’s 5th year, will see the programming and exhibit hall expand into a third day. Friday, March 22nd will introduce CannaBiz Friday, with a 100% focus on B2B. All speakers and sessions will be business-focused with special break-out networking sessions.

The Friday will also feature the first-ever New England Cannabis Community Awards. “There are so many organizations and entities who have brought the Massachusetts market online the right way,” says Managing Director Beth Waterfall, herself a long-time activist, “we can’t wait to shine the deserved spotlight on their efforts.” Proceeds from the event will go towards Veterans Alternative Healing and the New England Veterans Alliance.

The Wink In Weed: Why You Should Join Me At CCC PDX

January 21, 2018 by drheins Leave a Comment

By David Rheins

2018 will be a crucial year for the legal cannabis industry.  Five years after the first adult-use marijuana marketplaces opened in Colorado and Washington, our industry has grown large and gone mainstream.  Big and getting bigger, with the opening of the California and Nevada markets, Oregon is now part of a contiguous legal West Coast spanning from Canada to Mexico. CannaFest Destiny has never seemed more apparent, and competition never more fierce.

Legal cannabis production has never been higher, while wholesale prices have never been lower.  The harsh reality for an industry that is hyper-competitive, overtaxed and over-regulated, is that for most licensees profit margins have never been tighter.  Many mom and pops have already sold out, and many more are on that fence.  Add to this the recent saber rattling of drug-warrior-turned-Attorney-General Jeff Sessions, and it is easy to see that for many in the industry, 2018 has begun as a time of great uncertainty and anxiety.

CCCPDX issues an industry call to action

CCCPDX issues an industry call to action

As I wrote in my “Open Letter to Jeff Sessions,”  now is the time for industry leaders, businesses and supporters to stand united.  We must show that not only has our legal industry become a vital engine of reform and economic activity —  generating hundreds of millions in new tax revenues — but we have reinvigorated communities across the country by creating hundreds of thousands of new jobs.

The industry has arrived at a critical juncture in its evolution, and Oregon is on the front lines of the fight for an independent legal industry.  As the Cannabis Collaborative Conference’s Mary Lou Burton puts it, “The CCC has grown up with the industry in Oregon.  Now three years into full legalization, we no longer need to offer cannabis 101 education.  Now we are focused on education geared towards successfully and profitably operating in the current environment. ”

Differentiate: The commercialization and mainstreaming of the legal cannabis industry has put enormous pressure on licensees , who must focus on building brand equity and establishing effective marketing practices that will allow them to stand out from the competition.  I’m delighted to be moderating the marketing panel discussion at CCC this year, where along with canna-brand experts Stephen Gold, The Daily Leaf; Sean Lucas, NUG Digital Marketing; and Ryan Michael, KindTyme, we will discuss the top branding and marketing trends  that every canna-marketer must know.

  • Differentiate or Die!  Marketing Panel
  • 12:00 – 12:45pm, January 24
  • Room D204 (Seats 50)
  • Speakers: Dave Rheins, Sean Lucas, Ryan Michael and Stephen Gold

Activate: Congressman Earl Blumenauer will once again deliver a keynote speech at the conference. “This is a call to action.” he said in response to the Sessions announcement. “It’s time for anyone who cares about cannabis to mobilize to defend state marijuana laws.”

Burton added, “come together with fellow law abiding and tax paying professionals in the Cannabis Industry and unite!  CCC 4.0 provides the perfect opportunity to ban together and show the media and the world that we will not back down.”

Reverend Al Sharpton To Keynote CWCBExpo In LA & Boston

August 2, 2017 by MJ News Network Leave a Comment

NEW JERSEY:  Cannabis World Congress & Business Expositions (CWCBExpo) is pleased to announce that civil rights leader and founder of the National Action Network, Rev. Al Sharpton will be continuing his Keynote Address series at the upcoming 4th Annual Los Angeles event, September 13-15, at the LA Convention Center and at the premiere of the CWCBExpo Boston, October 4-6, at the Hynes Convention Center.   CWCBExpo events are the leading trade shows and conferences for the legalized cannabis, medical marijuana and industrial Hemp industries.

DECODE Cannabis, the New Civil Rights Movement for Cannabis Legalization and Inclusion Continues National Coast-to-Coast Roll-Out

In June at the CWCBExpo NY, Rev. Sharpton spoke publicly for the first time in a powerful Keynote Address about the disproportionate number of marijuana arrests of people of color in this country, including the unintended or intended consequences of national marijuana laws, as well as the need for greater inclusion of underrepresented communities in the fast-growing cannabis industry, which is expected to exceed $20 billion in 2020.

Also as part of Rev. Sharpton’s Keynote at CWCBExpo NY, was the launch of DECODE Cannabis Education Fund (DECODE) a national mobilization campaign to educate Americans on the social benefits of a federal mandate removing cannabis from the Schedule I.

The CWCBExpo LA event will also host the inaugural DECODE Cannabis Education Fund Awards Gala on Wednesday, September 13 and a stakeholders breakfast on Thursday, September 14, before Rev. Sharpton’s Keynote Address.  Both events will be attended by politicians, celebrities, and cannabis influencers supportive of federal legalization, decriminalization, and expanding inclusionary opportunities for all.

Rev. Sharpton founded the National Action Network (NAN) in 1991 and is President of the not-for-profit civil rights organization with over 100 chapters nationwide, including a Washington, DC Bureau and regional offices across the US.

As one of the nation’s most-renowned civil rights leaders, Rev Sharpton has been praised by President Barack Obama as “the voice of the voiceless and a champion for the downtrodden.”  Rev. Al Sharpton also hosts a daily radio show as well as a national cable news television show, and he is an established author.

“CWCBExpo remains committed to DECODE and looks forward to Rev. Sharpton continuing to share his powerful voice and insight on this at our Los Angeles and Boston events.  We are fully supportive of DECODE’s mission and its efforts to ensure equality and inclusion for all,” said Christine Ianuzzi, Managing Partner, CWCBExpo.
