MAINE: A group that wants to legalize marijuana for recreational use by adults is ready to submit its petitions to the town of York.
Citizens for a Safer Maine collected more than 900 signatures. That’s far more than the 641 valid signatures of registered town voters needed to qualify for the ballot.
Marijuana activists began collecting signatures after the Town Council vote 3-2 against putting the measure to a town vote. The petitions will be delivered Wednesday.
A similar measure will appear on the November ballot in South Portland. Organizers are also hoping to put the measure on the ballot in Lewiston.
