'Will Rap for Weed': Woman Tries to Raise Awareness of Medical Marijuana

TEXAS: A woman on the corner of Montrose and Westheimer [in Houston] is getting lots of attention as walks around with a sign that reads, “Will Rap for Weed.”

Yvette Gbalazeh said she is not panhandling for drugs, but protesting for change.

“I am an advocate for medicinal marijuana, not recreational use,” she said.

The rapper and DJ said she herself was advised years ago to smoke marijuana for her eating disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

“I don’t think that I should have to go to some organized crime ring. They don’t just sell weed. They sell coke (or cocaine). They sell people,” Gbalazeh said.

“If I’m not mistaken, didn’t God make these plants and herbs for us to use?” said Tony Henry, a motorist.

Not everyone agrees with her method or her message.

“It’s illegal. You don’t think you could get in trouble for standing out here with a sign?” Danielle Belt stopped to ask Gbalazeh as she was driving past.
