Steam comes out of the mouth of Antonio Cromartie as he walks in the cold weather before a game against the Oakland Raiders.

NEW YORK:  NFL players should be allowed to smoke marijuana if they want to, according to Antonio Cromartie. During a recent interview for an entertainment website, the Jets cornerback said the league is wasting its time by banning the drug.

“They need to just let it go,” Cromartie told, a site affiliated with the rapper 50 Cent. “We’re just going to do it anyway. They need to go ahead and say, ‘Y’all go ahead, smoke it, do what you need to do.’ ”

Although it sounds as if Cromartie said “we’re” in the video clip, he took to Twitter Wednesday to defend himself and to clarify his statement.

“The interview that I did on the weed policy, I never said ‘We’re’ I said that ‘Players will smoke anyway. I don’t smoke so I don’t care about it,” Cromartie tweeted.
