WLCB Proposes Ban On Gummy Bears, Hard Candies And Bright Colored Kid-Friendly Edibles

October 4, 2018 by MJ News Network Leave a Comment

WASHINGTON: Citing safety concerns over accidental ingestion by children, the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board is proposing a ban on all candy that might be attractive to children, or confused as regular candy — including popular gummy bears, hard candies and anything brightly colored.

A alert of the proposed change was sent from the WSLCB to all licensees:

LCB Leaf DataRegister to Attend: October 16 Marijuana Infused Candies Webinar

Recently staff conducted a reevaluation of all currently approved marijuana infused candy products to ensure the products align with current laws and rules and are not especially appealing to children (WAC 314-55-105 (5)(b)).

Reaction within the state’s legal marijuana industry was quick and fierce.  The Cannabis Alliance issued a “Call To Action” to its constituency:

We are asking for any and all businesses that will be affected by this proposed change to get in touch with us so we can coordinate a response with as many business and market facts as possible. We are also coordinating with other industry organizations as we understand this impacts many, many stakeholders.

Additionally, we recommend writing letters to the WSLCB as well as making plans to participate in the webinar.

Questions can be submitted in advance to labelapproval@lcb.wa.gov or electronically during the webinar. Questions will be answered as time allows.
