Will County Illinois Seeks Time To Devise Medical Marijuana Rules

ILLINOIS: Will County Board members are expected Thursday to approve a temporary moratorium on medical marijuana cultivation centers and dispensaries so they can craft rules for them.

With the state’s medical marijuana law taking effect Jan. 1, municipalities and counties are allowed to enact “reasonable zoning ordinances” to regulate cannabis growing centers and dispensaries. The proposed moratorium would allow county board members 120 days to draft regulations.

County officials noted the law also allows the state until the end of April to come up with its rules and regulations.

“(Our rules) will be consistent with state law,” said David Dubois, director of development review and zoning administrator.
