PHILLIPINES: AT least 20 congressmen led by House minority leader Ronaldo Zamora are now co-authors of a proposed law seeking to legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
“We are in agreement that marijuana for medicinal, strictly for medicinal purposes, should be examined…possibly legitimize it. For recreational purposes, that’s an entirely different issue,” Zamora said.
Isabela Rep. Rodolfo Albano III, author of House Bill No. 4477 (Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Act), said some of the new co-authors are Emi Calixto-Rubiano (Pasay City), Roy Señeres (OFW party-list), Regina Reyes (Marinduque), Elisa Olga Kho (Masbate) and Henry Oaminal (Misamis Occidental).
“Right now, the bill has been backed by at least 20 lawmakers. For the record, the measure would not decriminalize the sale and use of marijuana if these are not intended for medicinal purposes,” said Albano, a member of the minority bloc.
