COLORADO: The Breckenridge Town Council has passed an ordinance barring new medical or retail marijuana businesses in the downtown area.
The Summit Daily News reports the council voted in 4-1 in favor of the ordinance Tuesday night. The one downtown marijuana business, Breckenridge Cannabis Club, will be allowed to operate in its current location until its lease ends next September.
Councilman Ben Brewer, who voted against the ordinance, says marijuana should be regulated like liquor, and the council should not make a distinction between the downtown district and any other area of town. But Mayor John Warner says the downtown ban aligns with the town’s family friendly image and community character.
