The gala was a production of Weekend Unlimited USA through its event division, Weekend Unlimited LIVE, in celebration of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s recent announcement that he would push to legalize recreational marijuana next year, a move that could generate more than $1.7 billion in sales annually and put New York in line with several neighboring states.

IMG_2769Along with Snoop Dogg, attendees included NFL player and cannabis advocate Jack Brewer, restauranteur Barry Mullineaux, and nightlife impresario Carlos Antonio, former NFL safety Sergio Brown, Real Housewives Ramona Singer and Sonja Morgan, Mob wife Ramona Rizzo, Miss USA,  Miss New York Genesis Camilo, Terrence J, and DJ Whoo Kid.

Snoop Dogg To Speak At C2 Montréal 2018

CANADA: C2 Montréal is proud to announce that Snoop Dogg will be a speaker at the 7th edition of its flagship event, which will be held from May 23 to 25, 2018 in Montreal, Canada at the Arsenal. The artist turned entrepreneur will take centre stage in the Big Top to discuss his entrepreneurial vision for the cannabis industry. Joining Snoop Dogg for the talk is Ted Chung, a media entrepreneur and Snoop’s business partner at Casa Verde Capital and co-founder of Merry Jane.

Snoop creates opportunities in a new industry
Snoop is the founder of the venture capital firm Casa Verde Capital, which makes early-stage investments in startups in the ancillary cannabis industry. Casa Verde has funded several major marijuana ventures in the agtech, financial services, health, technology, media sectors, among others. One of Snoop’s recent high-profile investments includes $2 million in funding for Canadian cannabis inventory management company Trellis.

Building a cannabis content empire
Snoop’s sizeable entrepreneurial footprint, however, extends well beyond the venture capitalist aspect. He is also the co-founder of Merry Jane alongside business partner Ted Chung. Offering editorial content focused on marijuana news, politics, business and culture, Merry Jane speaks for and to the global mainstream cannabis community. Strategic brand partnerships (with the likes of VICE, MTV, Reddit, Complex and more) are key to the creation and sharing of original news and video content, such as VH1’s popular Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party TV series, featuring C2 Montréal 2016 alumni Martha Stewart.

With the impending legalization of marijuana in Canada, and the opening of the cannabis market in several jurisdictions across the U.S., Snoop Dogg has positioned himself as a leading voice on matters related to the business of cannabis.

Snoop Dogg Will Get A $5,000 Marijuana Gift From Oregon Pot Community

NEW YORK: Snoop Dogg will be gifted about $5,000 worth of top-shelf marijuana before his Tuesday concert in Oregon.

The rapper will receive a collection of “the best weed Oregon has to offer,” including marijuana-infused edibles and topical products, as a present for performing in Portland, The Oregonian reports.

More than two dozen weed advocates in the state donated their best products to be added to the gift bag for the rapper and his crew. “It was remarkably fast and honestly, the feedback has been tremendous as far as people bringing me a lot more than I expected, people showing up with 2 ounces of their finest flower or 15 of their edibles,” organizer Joshua Jardine Taylor told the newspaper.

Pentagram’s High-End Design For Snoop Dogg’s Marijuana Product Line

Just a decade ago, marijuana in the popular imagination was largely associated with cheesy stoner iconography — pot leaf decals, tie-dye and paisley patterns — and its packaging was limited to discreet plastic baggies. But now, with medical marijuana legal in 23 states and recreational marijuana legal in four, top designers are stepping up to rebrand the plant. With their identity for rapper and artist Snoop Dogg’s new line of marijuana products, Leafs by Snoop (LBS), leading design firm Pentagram has given pot its highest-design makeover yet.

LBS, currently only available in Colorado, consists of edibles like chocolate bars and gummies (called, naturally, Dogg Treats), plus cannabis flowers and concentrate. Pentagram partner Emily Oberman created colorful, elegant packaging that would fit right in at any mainstream health food store. It makes a once-illicit substance look downright wholesome — how could such a cute box of cherry gummies possibly land you in jail?

Pentagram, the design powerhouse behind identities for Tiffany’s and Saks Fifth Avenue, among other luxury companies, caters to a demographic broader than your stereotypical Harolds and Kumars. The identity targets the connoisseurs of the weed world — “alpha stoners,” like Snoop Dogg, and “stiletto stoners,” as marijuana branding expert Cheryl Shuman calls female smokers with office jobs.

Snoop Dogg Lights Up ‘Merry Jane,’ A Marijuana Lifestyle Content Site

Rapper-turned-tech-investor Calvin Broadus, better known as Snoop Dogg, is now a startup founder, too: he’s launching Merry Jane, a marijuana lifestyle site that he said will be “the encyclopedia to the cannabis world.”

Snoop laid out plans for Merry Jane on stage Monday at the TechCrunch Disrupt conference: the site will be a gathering place for everyone from those curious about cannabis to seasoned smokers and will feature things like original video content, including a series called “Deflowered,” where people get high and describe a new experience they had while enjoying marijuana.

As a budding venture capitalist, Snoop has already dabbled in investing in a few startups, usually with a focus on marijuana. His fund is called Casa Verde Capital and invested earlier this year in Eaze, an on-demand weed startup. He as also invested alongside actor Jared Leto in Robinhood, a free stock trading platform.

Snoop Dogg Will Play An Alaska Show If Local Voters Legalize Weed

ALASKA:  Snoop Dogg has made sure over the years that his love for all things weed-related has been well documented, so he’s found something of a kindred spirit in former Alaskan news reporter Charlo Greene. The former KTVA reporter just recently quit her post in dramatic fashion by revealing that she was the owner of the Alaska Cannibis Club. To formally relinquish her job, she closed her statement with “fuck it, I quit.” As NME points out, Snoop obviously found a lot to love, snagging Greene for an interview on his GGN webcast and promising to play a show in Alaska if the state is able to legalize marijuana on its next ballot.

“If we get y’all to vote yes on Proposition 2, Snoop Dogg is coming to Alaska to do a concert, a wellness retreat concert, and I’m bringing some of that California with me to celebrate.” theDoggystyle rapper said.

The recent Flying Lotus collaborator says he’s registering his support for Greene rather than a host of other advocates because she demonstrates that “it’s not just a bunch of thug dudes that’s trying to push weed.” There’s probably a lot of crossover between people that would vote “yes” on a marijuana legalization proposition and people that would want to see a Snoop Dogg concert, but just in case you fall in the latter camp and not the former, Snoop’s given you something to think about. You can watch the whole interview above.

Snoop Dogg Says He Smoked Marijuana In The White House — Without Obama

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA:  Weed isn’t this legal in D.C. yet.

In an episode of his online show “GGN: The Double G News Network” that just went live, Snoop Dogg claimed he smoked Mary Jane in a White House bathroom.

Though Mr. Dogg did not explicitly say so, the implication was that President Obama was not there when the rapper toked up. For the record: Obama recently turned down pot at a bar in Denver – though, if it’s relevant, he has been known to dodge questions about whether he smokes cigarettes of the non-marijuana variety in the White House.

Dogg’s revelation came in an exchange with guest Jimmy Kimmel. Try to follow along:

Kimmel: Have you ever smoked at the White House?

Dogg [smoking what appears to be a marijuana blunt]: In the bathroom.

Kimmel: You did? In the White House.

Dogg: In the bathroom. Not in the White House — but in the bathroom. Because I said, “May I use the bathroom for a second?” And they said, “What are you going to do? No. 1 or No. 2?” I said, “No. 2.”

DJ Snoopadelic and Kokane Headline Oklahoma Hempfest September 7-9th

NEW DATES. OKLAHOMA HEMPFEST RESCHEDULED:  Oklahoma Hempfest Rescheduled; New Dates June 7, 8 & 9th 2019

By Scott McKinley

Who could imagine Oklahoma going for Medical Cannabis?  After the state just claimed the crown for most incarcerations,  the people have truly spoken with this one.

Being an 8-year member of Seattle Hempfest, I know the power of a “Protestival” done right. This will be my third year of sponsoring a stage in Seattle and networking with all the entrepreneurs to make the 3-day event happen, and so naturally I decided it would be a perfect timing idea to bring the official Hempfest to my home state of Oklahoma.  With the teachers all at strike and a good portion of the proceeds going to them, I banked on state question 788 to pass.

I flew in to my home state of Oklahoma to meet with the group who created Rocklahoma to begin the planning. For public and political support, we flew in Seattle City A Attorney Pete Holmes,  Seattle Hempfest’s Vivian McPeak, Patrick Saint from the Twenty22 Many Foundation, and Ashley Heddy the head of traceability training from BiotrackTHC.

We had a panel set up by Senator and gubernatorial candidate Connie Johnson.   We toured the venue Lost Lakes, and fell in love with the layout. It’s the perfect place.  I put all the pieces together and presented the idea.  Along the way, I had many partners and friends say I was wasting my time because Oklahoma would never legalize.  I reached out to Snoop Dogg’s camp, as I had worked with him in the past, and he had the dates — September 7-9 — open.

All the pieces have come together.  We lined up the investors, the venue, the state, and the artists —  all while awaiting the vote.  So you asked for it, Oklahoma, and you will get it:  the first annual Oklahoma Hempfest headlined by DJ Snoopadelic, and the Legendary Kokane — the most featured artist in the world. — with 3 days and 4 stages of artists and speakers.  In the tradition of Seattle Hempfest, this will be a free to the public event and will have speakers in between each artist performing on all stages.  Stay tuned for more details!

How Do Musicians Choice Of Weed Strain Affects Their Music?

What do Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg have in common? Their own cannabis strains! See how Artists’ favorite weed strains connect with their music.

By Kate Patterson

Over the years, Denver, Colorado, has gained the reputation for being the biggest ‘reefer town’ in the U.S. The “Mile High City” certainly has had its share of celebrities coming in to visit and experience legal marijuana consumption.

But as the cannabis culture is crossing over to the mainstream world, local musicians along with famous American rock stars are heading to Colorado to create their own marijuana strains. How cool is that?

With 4/20 – the official stoner holiday – coming up in a few short weeks, 303 Magazine teamed up with Big Gigantic, Snoop Dogg, Trev Rich, GRiZ, Willie Nelson and Allman Brothers Band’s bassist, Oteil Burbridge to test out their very own cannabis bud.

If you’re curious to find out what type of experience you can get from these famous musicians strains, keep reading. We’ll also delve into what it was like to smoke their strains, while at the same time, listen to their very own music.

  • Musician: Willie Nelson
  • Genre: Country
  • Album: Wille and Family Live (Released 1978)
  • Name of Strain: Colin OG Strain (Indica)
  • Where To Buy This Strain: Diego Pellicer and LivWell Enlightened Health

The Inside Scoop: The initial scent that comes up when we lit up Colin OG was very distinct. It had a fruity smell that was very pungent. The smoke tasted a little bit sweet. If you like to smoke sweet strains, as opposed to the earthly ones, you’ll enjoy Colin OG for its berry fragrance.

Colin OG is an indica hybrid with a 70:30 indica/sativa ratio. In the initial stages of smoking, the indica effects were felt right away. It creates a body buzz and about halfway through, drowsiness creeps in. On the other hand, the sativa side to Colin OG is its mood-boosting effects. As the body buzz starts to make its way through, you feel uplifted and happy.

Now about relating it to Willie Nelson’s music. Since Colin OG is a dominant indica strain, listening to Nelson’s country ballad hits, “One Day At A Time”, “Crazy” and the “Red Headed Stranger Medley,” made you drift into a relaxing mood. Colin OG is meant for those who like to kick back, smoke and listen to the slow songs of Nelson’s laid-back Nashville twang.

Final Decision: Can you believe that Willie Nelson has been smoking weed for more than 60 years? He’s been noted for being the first country artist coming out of Nashville for smoking weed on stage and even advocating for its legalization since the 1960s.

In an April 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, Nelson called weed ‘the safest medicine.’ However, in December 2019, he has reportedly stopped smoking, since he is battling a serious case of emphysema.

But the legacy of Colin OG lives on as it’s still a popular strain sold on his brand site, Willie’s Reserve. If you’re a fan of Willie Nelson and cannabis, you got to get your hands on Colin OG. It’s for the smoker who likes to mellow out and listen to old country music. We’re sure that the man himself, Willie, would enjoy seeing you unwind and relax.

  • Musician: Willie Nelson
  • Genre: Country
  • Album: Willie and Family Live (Released 1978)
  • Name of Strain: Sour Diesel (Sativa)
  • Where To Buy This Strain: Bud Fox Enterprises LLC and LivWell Enlightened Health

The Inside Scoop: Although Colin OG lined up perfectly with Nelson’s Willie and Family Live album, his Sour Diesel bud doesn’t trail off too far.

Nelson’s e-commerce website Willie’s Reserve is popular for carrying strains with high THC content and potency, and Sour Diesel ranks high in those two departments.

In comparison to Colin OG, Sour Diesel is a sativa plant. It doesn’t give the punch of a body buzz like Colin OG does. With Sour Diesel, you won’t feel anxious. The scent is that of a mix of ‘skunky’ and sweet. A few puffs of Sour Diesel and it tastes earthy with a hint of lemon and berries.

This complemented the 1978 release of the Willie and Family Live album as it brought out a creative and introspective feeling. While I was listening to Nelson’s live album, I closed my eyes and transcended back to that time. I imagined myself sitting on the lawn, smoking a joint, while Nelson performed on stage with his guitar and singing his country tunes in his deep Southern drawl. I was swaying slowly to his country hits, “The Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line” and “I Gotta Get Drunk.”

Final Decision: Even though Willie Nelson has reportedly stopped smoking weed in 2019 due to emphysema, do you think he wouldn’t have created a line of buds that didn’t complement his music? If you prefer sativa experiences that uplift your mood, smoke some Sour Diesel and turn up Nelson’s faster songs like “Uncloudy Day” and “I Gotta Get Drunk.”
