PTSD Causes Heart Disease: Marijuana Helps Prevent it!

Dr. Phil Leveque

OREGON: The Journal of the American College of Cardiology just printed an article that PTSD more than doubled the likelihood of heart disease such as heart attacks, had a heart procedure or has been hospitalized for a heart problem.

Those with PTSD had 22% problems those without 9%. The cause was less blood flow to the heart muscle. A leading doctor in the study was Dr. Viola Vaccarino of Emery University who studied that it was known that PTSD victims had higher levels of stress hormones. The leading, most important one was Epinephrine sometimes called adrenalin causing heart vaso constriction.

I have interviewed about 1,000 PTSD veterans and others who have found that Cannabis/Marijuana (C/MJ) alleviates PTSD symptoms. Although this action is mainly on the brain, C/MJ is also an excellent vaso dilator which would increase heart blood flow.

I have written about and published this C/MJ cardiac protective action in two previous articles in Salem-News.com (Cardiac Arrhythmias and Marijuana: Reprise, and Cardiac Arrhythmias and Marijuana).

While taking medical histories of my 1,000 PTSD patients, none of them reported any cardiac dysfunction such as arrhythmias which are the most common manifestation of heart disease. These 1,000 PTSD victims, as well as 4,000 other patients, were actual users of medical marijuana and none of them reported heart problems.

In addition to my 5,000 patients, my organization has had about 150,000 medical marijuana patients in 6 states. And all of these patients are using marijuana currently, and about 95% were actually using it before they came in to become legalized for its use. This article about PTSD is very interesting in that it is about Vietnam veterans who were twins. There were 281 twin pairs or 562 patients, 137 of them had PTSD and were compared to the others who did not have PTSD.
