Legal recreational marijuana sales got underway in Oregon this week with 245 dispensaries eligible to sell the drug. Many shops in Portland, home to more than 100 marijuana dispensaries, saw brisk business Thursday.

A ‘Niche Business’: Mainstream Doctors Are Wary Of Prescribing Medical Marijuana

According to sales data from Colorado’s Department of Revenue released Friday, sales of recreational pot topped $59.2 million for the month, while medical marijuana dispensaries pulled in $41.4 million, for a combined $100.6 million — the highest monthly total since legal recreational cannabis sales began there in January 2014.

Oak Park, IL Votes Down Medical Marijuana Tax

Big NY Banks Tell Licensed Medical Marijuana Firms To Take a Hike

Some of the major federally regulated banks in New York have no plans to do business with the medical marijuana companies that were awarded licenses to grow and distribute the drug.

That means the banks will not accept deposits from the companies and will not allow bank-issued debit cards to be used to purchase the drug.

“While the use of medical marijuana is legal under applicable state laws in some states, the manufacture, distribution, and use of marijuana is still illegal under federal law," a spokesman for Wells Fargo said. "Our policy of not banking marijuana-related businesses is based on applicable federal laws."

Connecticut Gets 19 Proposals For New Dispensaries
